Forest fire in Mardin countryside brought under control

After hours of firefighting, the forest fire in the Omerya region near Nusaybin has been brought under control. The fire spread rapidly on Sunday amid strong winds, destroying several hundred hectares of forest.

A large forest fire in the Omerya region of Mardin province has been brought under control. The fire broke out on Sunday morning in the mountainous areas near the villages of Sitîlîlê and Habîsê in the district of Nusaybin and spread rapidly due to strong winds.

According to local authorities, the fire covered several hundred hectares of forest and bushland. Extinguishing the fire proved difficult at first, as it spread across rough terrain. In addition to fire department and forestry service units, numerous residents also helped to contain the flames, supported by firefighting helicopters.

It was not until late at night that emergency services managed to bring the fire under control. The exact cause of the outbreak remains unclear. There are no reports of injuries or evacuations, while numerous trees and large areas of natural vegetation were destroyed.
