The spokesperson of the House of Cinema in Iran announced that nearly 300 film directors have been sued and their work rights have been cancelled since the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ uprising that started in September 2022.
According to RojNews, Resul Sedir Emil, the spokesperson of the Cinema House in Iran, made a press statement on cinema directors obtaining a work licence.
Resul Emil said that since the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising that started after the murder of Kurdish young woman Jina Mahsa Amini by the morality police in September 2022, nearly 300 film directors have been tried and their rights to work have been cancelled.
Resul Emil stated that the right to work depends on the political, social and security situation in the country, which prevents them from making films. He added that the fate of their work is still unknown.
Resul Emil noted that the Iran Film Festival will not take place this year because it cannot be held under unfair and unequal conditions.
