"To the congress for the dissolution of the PKK and the end of the armed struggle strategy

Dear Comrades,
At the end of 52 years, 1 month, and 1 week of our struggle, we are officially leaving behind a historical era. More concretely, we wish to mark the beginning of a new historical period, transitioning from socialism with a nation-state objective to a democratic society-based socialism, just as everything has an end and a beginning.

A period must be left behind for four main reasons:

1. The PKK, in its essence, has completed its lifespan and thus must be officially dissolved. This refers to the internal collapse of real socialism, the necessity of opening a path for a new kind of socialism, and the recognition and realization of Kurdish identity.

2. Armed struggle was based on a nation-state-oriented strategy. Abandoning this goal and transitioning to a democratic society program requires a reliance on democratic politics and the rule of law. Thus, ending the armed struggle is necessary. This is contingent on the recognition of the right to democratic politics and a solid and comprehensive legal guarantee.

3. Dialogues and negotiations with the state were not accepted under the official identity of the PKK, which has become a significant issue. Dissolution is necessary in this regard. It can also be seen as a result reached by taking public opinion into account.

4. It is necessary in order to transition into a new historical phase: the phase of “Peace and Democratic Society.” I believe that the decisions this congress will take regarding the end of the first period, and the shift toward democratic society, its politics, and law, are of historical significance. I wish it success.

Persistence in humanity is persistence in socialism.
Nation-state socialism leads to defeat; democratic society socialism leads to victory.
