Five more CHP mayors suspended from duty
Five more mayors from the CHP have been suspended from duty by the Ministry of the Interior.
Five more mayors from the CHP have been suspended from duty by the Ministry of the Interior.
Five more mayors from the Republican People's Party (CHP) have been suspended from duty by the Ministry of the Interior as part of corruption investigations based in Istanbul.
With the suspension of these five mayors, the total number of CHP mayors removed from office has risen to 11.
The names of the suspended mayors are as follows:
Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara
Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün
Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe
Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar
Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin
The mayors were arrested after being taken into custody as part of corruption investigations launched against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), Beşiktaş, and Büyükçekmece municipalities.
Previously, CHP’s Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan were also removed from office and replaced with government-appointed trustees, despite being elected under the “Urban Consensus” framework.
Other suspended mayors include IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık.
