The trees around the historic Armenian "Church of the Holy Cross" on the island of Akdamar in Lake Van flourish and give the island an incomparable appearance.
Akdamar belongs to the district Gevaş in the province of Van and is like a gift of nature in front of the panorama of the mountains Artos and Süphan. With 70,000 square meters, it is the second largest island in Van Lake.
The island is still a magnet for visitors. The crossing by ferry takes 20 minutes. Most of the tourists visit the Armenian church. The Turkish state allows worship once a year.
