Mustafa Erol, brother of Medeni, said that the prosecutor’s office prevented liquid food from being given to the man, even though 11 stitches were needed on his throat.

The state terror continues against the people who have stood up for their will after the government-appointed trustees replaced the freely and democratically elected DEM Party mayors in Batman (Êlih), Halfeti (Xelfetî) and Mardin (Mêrdîn).

Police violence and torture targeted not only children and the elderly but also disabled people. 37-year-old Medeni Erol, who has a 70% disability, was taken into custody by police using a dog. The man was arrested in a house raid at 5am on Thursday, accused of having taken part in the protests against the appointed trustee in Batman.

Mustafa Erol, Medeni’s brother, spoke to ANF and said that his brother’s throat was injured by police dogs, requiring 11 stitches. Despite his brother being unable to swallow, the prosecutor ordered that liquid food not be given to him.

11 stitches after dog attack

Mustafa Erol said that his brother’s photo, taken while he was watching the protests, was used as the reason for his detention. He described the raid, saying: "At 5am, they broke the door of our house. During the raid, my mother, father, and brother were at home. Special operations and anti-terror police broke into the house with long-barreled weapons, first pushing my father to the ground and stepping on him, then locking my mother in a room. They entered my disabled brother’s room and set the police dog on him. The dog immediately jumped on my brother’s throat. He was left in a pool of blood, and an ambulance was called. He got 11 stitches in his throat, and he was taken to the police station."

The forensic doctor at the courthouse said 'he has full criminal capacity'

Mustafa Erol added that, as there was no space at the Batman Police Department’s anti-terrorism branch, his brother was transferred to the Public Security Branch. "We went to the police with a lawyer and presented my brother’s 70% disability report. We were referred to the prosecutor. After the report was sent to the prosecutor’s office, my brother was brought to the courthouse for an examination by a forensic doctor, who issued a report stating that my brother 'had full criminal capacity,' and sent him back to custody. However, we have official reports from both Istanbul Psychiatry and Neurology Hospital and Diyarbakır Military Hospital, confirming my brother’s disability."

The prosecutor ordered that liquid food not be given to young man

Mustafa Erol also pointed out that because of the pain in his throat, Medeni is unable to swallow, yet the prosecutor’s order had prevented him from being given liquid food. "When our lawyer informed the police that my brother needed liquid food, they directed him to the anti-terrorism unit. The officers there rejected the request, saying, 'There is a clear instruction from the prosecutor.'"

Mustafa Erol also mentioned that, in addition to his brother, there are other disabled individuals, as well as many children and elderly people, being held in the same detention facility.

My brother should be released!

Mustafa Erol made a call for action. He stressed that his brother had been detained using police dogs and denied food. "My brother is in a life-threatening condition. He is already heavily disabled, and now they attack them with dogs. The justification is a photo of him watching the protests and walking alongside MPs. My mother is in a terrible state. Imagine a mother who has spent 37 years trying to keep her disabled child alive. This child cannot even shave by himself. He cannot meet his basic needs. They appointed a trustee to the municipality where my father is a council member, and now they are targeting my brother. They are seeking revenge. They must release my brother!"
