10 people, including Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Gebze District Co-chairs Melike Aydın and Ömer Yıldız, were taken into custody following house raids in the Gebze district of Kocaeli.
The 10 people were taken to the district police department and legal proceedings were initiated on the charge of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization."
Following the security procedures, 7 people, including the Gebze district co-chairs, were released. 3 people were referred to court with a request for arrest. The court ruled that 2 people be released on probation, while DEM Party member Serhat Ziyalı was arrested on the charge of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization."
The reason for the detentions was the posts the ten people shared on their social media accounts. The ten people shared photoes of journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan, who were murdered by the Turkish state in Northern and Eastern Syria.
