22 journalists for Özgür Gündem released

22 journalists who were detained as a result of the raid on Özgür Gündem office two days ago, have been released.

The procedures for 22 out of the 25 journalists who work at Özgür Gündem or some others who happened to be in the building during the raid on August 16 have been completed at the Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul.

The journalists who were battered and detained during the raid were first taken to Kasımpaşa, Karaköy and Taksim police stations where they were asked to give statements for “resisting arrest”. Detained journalists have exercised their right to remain silent.

The journalists were referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan for their statements in the prosecutor’s office earlier today. In the evening, all the 22 have been released.

Editor in chief Bilir Kaya, publisher İnan Kızılkaya and columnist Aslı Erdoğan are still in questioning at Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate Anti-terror Unit.
