Access to 'Şûjin' news agency banned by Turkey

Access to another news agency has been banned by the Turkish state as the continuation of a long trail of crackdown on Kurdish and opposition media.

In 2016 a news website was introduced for women by the name of 'Şûjin', literally meaning 'packing needle', against “the masculine language of the mainstream media”.

An all-female news agency, from its editors to reporters, Şûjin distinguishes itself through reports mainly about women, taking on the task to represent women's will and voice to the society. The news agency provides multi-language service in the Kurdish dialects Kurmancî, Kirmanckî, Soranî as well as Turkish, English and Arabic.

The website of the news agency,, has been blocked by the Turkish Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) on Thursday.
