Journalist Ali Barış Kurt was sentenced to 2 years in prison during the court hearing in Ankara. Lawyer Kaleli stated that the case has been prepared illegally and the decision was unlawful.
A court hearing was held in Ankara 2nd High Criminal Court for the case where ANF journalist Ali Barış Kurt has been accused of "propagating for a terrorist organization."
Kurt was put on trial for the content he shared on his social media accounts and his journalistic work, and was given a sentence of 2 years in prison. The judges did not allow Kurt to use the ‘Deferment of the Announcement of the Verdict.’
FAKE DENOUNCEMENT
While Kurt was not present during the court hearing, lawyer Gulan Çağın Kaleli defended her client and said that the case has been prepared illegally. Kaleli said "The prosecutor refers to a denouncement on BİMER however the denouncement is anonymous. This is illegal because one cannot make anonymous denouncements to BİMER."
Lawyer Gulan Çağın Kaleli emphasized that journalistic work has been treated as organization propaganda, and noted that they would object to the decision.
