Çetin: Norway rejected RTÜK's request but EUTELSAT accepted it

At a European Council conference, Ferda Çetins stated that Turkey has launched a comprehensive attack on Kurdish TV channels. Çetin said that Norway rejected RTÜK’s request to close down Med Nuçe but EUTELSAT accepted it without a hesitation.

The "Turkey’s press and media freedom" conference at the European Council continues.

Med Nuçe TV Director Ferda Çetin spoke during the conference and said that, according to the official written documents they have received, Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) launched a comprehensive attack on Kurdish TV channels. Çetin stated that Norwegian officials did not pay any attention to the RTÜK’s request for Med Nuçe TV’s closure, but EUTELSAT accepted it without a hesitation.

Çetin underlined that EUTELSAT has formed commercial relations with Ankara, and the two have been involved in projects in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Çetin said that EUTELSAT not only fulfills Ankara’s requests but also acts as its political representative, and called upon European institutions and people to not be a part of the EUTELSAT-Turkey alliance.

PACE Left Group member and HDP parliamentarian Hişyar Özsoy informed the participants of the conference on the conditions of the press in Turkey.

IMC TV representative Ayşegül Doğan described the closure of IMC TV and the imprisonment of journalists in Turkey, and said that they were not the only media organ to interview KCK Co-President Cemil Bayık three years ago and tens of journalists including those from the state news agenct Anadolu Agency were also in Qandil.

Lastly, Doğan stated that they would not stop making similar news in the future.
