At least five people were killed and two were abducted in recent armed attacks targeting civilians working in fields in Latakia and Homs.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that unidentified armed individuals killed four civilians in the village of Ayn al-Jawze, part of the town of Ayn al-Sharqiyah in the countryside of Latakia, in western Syria.
The attack occurred while civilians were working on agricultural land. Among the victims was a child. SOHR stated that the attack was carried out at close range and had the intent of "elimination."
A similar incident occurred in the village of Balkese, west of Homs, where an armed group raided the village, killed a young man, and then abducted his father and brother, taking them to an unknown location.
According to SOHR data collected since the beginning of 2025, the number of people killed across Syria for reasons such as elimination or revenge has reached 619. Among the victims were 20 women and 8 children.
The report notes that such attacks have been increasing, particularly in regions outside of North and East Syria. The lack of security, social breakdown, and absence of a judicial mechanism to hold perpetrators accountable continue to endanger civilian lives.
