At least 25 people were killed and 63 injured in a suicide bombing attack that targeted the Mar Elias Church in Damascus on June 22.
In a press statement in front of the El Muqedese Armenian Catholic Church in Hesekê, the Democratic Armenian Youth Movement condemned the attack and lit candles in memory of the victims.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Armenian Unity Party, the Armenian Council of Hesekê, and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.
Lusnak Kapuryan, co-chair of the Democratic Armenian Youth Movement, read the press statement which emphasized that attacking people in a place of worship is an unforgivable crime.
The statement continued, “We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. This is not a ordinary terrorist attack; it is a continuation of policies targeting Christians.”
The demonstrators called on the Syrian transitional government and relevant international institutions to investigate the attack, hold the perpetrators accountable, and improve the safety of civilians.
Following the statement, participants lit candles in memory of those who lost their lives in the attack.
