ISIS commander captured in special operation led by the YPJ in Deir ez-Zor countryside

In coordination with the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Women’s Protection Units carried out a special operation and captured a senior ISIS commander and one of his operatives.

On June 24, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), in coordination with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), carried out a special operation in the town of Al-Shuhail in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor. During the operation, a senior ISIS commander and one of his operatives were apprehended.

In the high-level operation led by the YPJ, the captured ISIS commander and his associate were reportedly planning to carry out a terrorist attack targeting civilians in the region, according to a statement by the YPJ Media Center, which further said the following:

“These terrorists are frequently involved in planting explosive devices and landmines on public roads with the aim of assassinating civilians and military personnel. Their actions threaten the security and stability of Deir ez-Zor, while they also engage in propaganda for the ISIS terrorist organization by distributing promotional leaflets.

Our forces had been pursuing these cells for a long period before successfully capturing them in a special, well-coordinated operation. A large quantity of ammunition was also seized during the raid. The YPJ had been closely monitoring and tracking these ISIS terrorists based on extensive intelligence. Following careful surveillance, the two ISIS members were arrested, and several military supplies, documents, and propaganda materials belonging to the terrorist organization were confiscated.

The captured ISIS commander, Abdul Qadir, had carried out numerous terrorist attacks against local residents. He was responsible for planting and distributing landmines among ISIS sleeper cells. He also spread fear and unrest among the population by distributing threatening leaflets—especially targeting families affiliated with the Autonomous Administration or those with children serving in the Syrian Democratic Forces. Moreover, he was involved in extorting money from civilians to fund ISIS operations. Families who refused to pay were subjected to threats via the leaflets.

The Women’s Protection Units reaffirm their unwavering commitment to defending their people from ISIS terrorists. They will continue their struggle until peace and stability are fully restored in the region.”
