The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) made a statement on the newly formed government in Syria.
The statement pointed out that Syrians have been suffering from the pain caused by the unilateral and exclusionary governance approach for years and said: “The previous regimes, which ignored the ethnic and cultural diversity of the country, dragged Syria into a deep crisis by excluding a large part of the people from political processes. The people expected an end to this mentality and the establishment of a democratic and pluralistic government. However, the new government announced in Damascus on Saturday evening, March 29, dashed these hopes. It was clearly seen that the new cabinet is no different from the previous administrations and that social diversity is again ignored. The fact that all segments of the Syrian people must have a fair and real representation was once again ignored.”
DAANES noted that the Damascus government has persistently excluded different segments and ethnic groups of the Syrian people from the political processes and pursued a unilateral governance approach. Syrians initiated a revolutionary process and demanded a radical change precisely by opposing this understanding, it added.
“Any government that does not reflect Syria's many-voiced and multicultural structure cannot govern the country in a healthy manner and cannot offer a way out of the current crisis. On the contrary, such governments deepen the crisis and create new deadlocks instead of solving the root causes of the problem. Therefore, we have no obligation to implement the decisions of such governments. Repeating the mistakes of the past will only harm the Syrian people and will never pave the way for a comprehensive political solution.”
Underlining that the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria will never give up the fundamental rights of Syrians, the statement concluded with the following call to the Damascus administration: “Our aim is to build a common and democratic Syria where all citizens have equal rights. No party or ethnic group should be allowed to monopolize the government, and everyone should be allowed to participate fairly in the political process. To this end, we call for a governance approach that includes all peoples, faith groups and social components and rejects exclusionary policies.”
