Representatives from several journalists associations within the body of Council of Europe's platform to promote the protection of journalists and safety of journalists, have met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Article 19, European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Reporters Without Borders (RSF), International Federation of Journalists (IJF), Association of European Journalists (AEJ), Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Index on Censorship and International Press Institute (IPI).

During the meeting, journalists informed Jagland about the pressure, repression and arrest of journalists and closing of TV and radio networks in Turkey, and asked what efforts the Council of Europe made on this subject.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland on the other hand stated that their cooperation with Turkey regarding the freedom of press continues, but did not highlight what progress has been made in this scope.

After the meeting, Jagland stated that they exchanged their “concerns” over the developments in Turkey, and that they reiterated their support to the Council of Europe's platform to promote the protection of journalists and safety of journalists.
