Journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu to appear in court today

Imprisoned journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu will appear in court today.

Journalist and co-chair of the Dicle-Firat (DFG) association, Dicle Müftüoğlu, will appear in court today.

Dicle Müftüoğlu was detained on 29 April last year and subsequently arrested on charges of "founding and leading a terrorist organization" and "membership of a terrorist organization". The trial will be held at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court.

Müftüoğlu has been in detention for over 300 days and faces up to 37.5 years in prison.

Last week, MLSA, along with six civil society organizations, called for international solidarity to end Müftüoğlu's imprisonment.

The call said: "Award-winning Kurdish journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu is known for her valuable work in the field of journalism as co-chair of the Dicle-Firat Journalists Association (DFG) and editor of the Mesopotamia Agency (MA). On 3 May 2023, World Press Freedom Day, she was arrested and imprisoned. Dicle Müftüoğlu is accused of 'membership in an illegal organization' and 'founding and directing' it. However, there is not a single accusation against the journalist."
