Özgürlükçü Demokrasi employee Semiha Mete who was detained during newspaper distribution in İzmir’s Buca district on August 21, has been jailed.
Özgürlükçü Demokrasi employee Semiha Mete had been taken into custody while distributing the newspaper in Buca district of the western İzmir province on August 21, and has been referred to İzmir Courthouse Friday morning.
After her testimony at the prosecutor’s office, Mete was referred to İzmir 2nd Court of Peace, accused of “membership to a terrorist organisation” and “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organisation”. Mete said she just distributed a legal newspaper, and rejected the accusations.
The court took Mete’s distribution of the newspaper and her social media posts as evidences, and ruled her imprisonment due to “suspicion of flight”.
