Journalists from Kurdistan living in Switzerland announced the establishment of the "Kurdistan Journalists Association".
Journalists gathered in Zurich to announce the establishment of the "Kurdistan Journalists Association" and to discuss its statute. Basel Basta Party Secretary Franzka Stier, Swiss Democratic Kurdish Council (CDK-S) co-chair Ismail Kardaş, Behtnahrin National Assembly member Sleymun Elber Rhawi attended the congress.
The meeting started with the formation of the council. Rüştü Demirkaya, Hülya Emeç, Safure Bazrafshan and Kamuran Raman were elected to the congress council of the association.
Speaking on behalf of the council, journalist Rüştü Demirkaya emphasized that the free press has paid a serious price for years and said: “We, as journalists from 4 parts of Kurdistan, had to leave the country. We need to organize in order to explain the difficulties faced by the Kurds in the country we live in, and especially to bring the problems faced by our journalist colleagues to the agenda of Switzerland. We have been working on the establishment of this association for about a year. Finally, with this congress, we have taken an important step towards formality. We came together to gather all the journalists who have worked in Kurdistan under one roof and to solve the problems of the journalists who are forced to leave their homes.”
