The Women's Press Union (YRJ) in North-East Syria celebrates its 4th anniversary. Founded on 28 June 2020, YRJ has carried out many important activities since its establishment and has become a roof for women journalists. YRJ Spokesperson Arîn Siwêd spoke to ANHA on the 4th founding anniversary.
Drawing attention to the work carried out by YRJ, Arîn Siwêd said, "Journalists witness many incidents concerning wars, massacres and attacks that the governments wage against the people. In the years-long struggle, 100 journalists have been martyred, 28 of them in North and East Syria. Despite everything, journalists continued to write the truth. On behalf of YRJ, I commemorate the martyred journalists once again. The martyr Şevin Bingöl had a great role in the construction of YRJ. We also commemorate her once again."
Regarding the importance of YRJ, Arîn Siwêd said the following: "For the last few years, we have been discussing the role of women journalists in the revolution in North and East Syria, their duties and how they can build a political society with their pens. We have organised many panels and workshops and we are trying to reach out to all journalists in Syria and the Middle East. This is one of our most important goals ahead.”
Arîn Siwêd added: "We want to change the patriarchal mentality and develop the language of women's libertarian paradigm. On this basis, we aim to reach all journalists in Syria and the Middle East. We promise that we will follow the path of the Free Press with our pen and be the voice and colour of the truth."
