8 Mapuche prisoners stop drinking on 114th day of hunger strike

The Mapuche political prisoners on hunger strike in Angol jail, sent out a document to the Gendarmerie to communicate that they have also stopped drinking as of Monday night.

This drastic measure is due to the Government's unwillingness to solve the hunger strike by talking directly with the Mapuche prisoners. Justice Minister Hernán Larraín Fernández has rejected dialogue. The prisoners reminded of the relationship of the Chilean State with the Mapuche people which has always been one of deceit, fraud and repression.

The Mapuche prisoners said they had been forced to stop taking liquids as well because of the government’ breaches of agreements and proposals delivered by the Mapuche people.

The prisoners asked the Chilean Government to meet, not only their demands but also to deal with the prisoners directly.

The 8 Mapuche prisoners in Angol have been on hunger strike for 114 days.
