Dozens of members of Amnesty International gathered in front of the Turkish Embassy in Paris to protest against the arrest of human rights defenders in Turkey.
The demonstrators put their hands in handcuffs to express their reaction against the arrest by Turkey of human rights defenders among whom are also Amnesty International's Turkey Branch Chairman Taner Kılıç and Director İdil Eser.
Representative of Amnesty International in France Nicolas Krameyer demanded the immediate release of all the human rights defenders arrested in Büyükada, Istanbul, emphasizing that subjecting these people to dozens of years in prison would be a scandalous act.
Krameyer stressed that the arrested human rights defenders have been put into prison cells of 2 square metres, and that they are denied access to both their families and doctors for medical purpose.
The demonstrators were obstructed and blocked by security officials as they tried, following the speeches, to leave in front of the Turkish Embassy the list of 100 thousand signatures collected in the frame of an internet campaign conducted by Amnesty International members for the release of the arrested human rights defenders.
