According to the ‘Workplace Deaths in the First Three Months of 2024’ report released by the Health and Safety Labor Watch (ISIG) Assembly, at least 425 workers lost their lives in Turkey in three months, 161 in January, 149 in February and 115 in March.
According to ISIG, the highest number of workplace deaths occurred in Istanbul with 70 deaths, followed by Izmir with 33 deaths, Konya with 20 deaths, Bursa, Antep and Urfa with 18 deaths each.
It was stated that 13 of the workers who died in three months were women, 16 were children and 9 were refugees-immigrants.
According to the report, the highest number of workplace deaths occurred in the construction sector with 105 deaths, in transport with 58 deaths, in the agriculture-forestry sector with 39 deaths, in the metal sector with 31 deaths and in the accommodation sector with 27 deaths.
