Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) has released its conference final statement today. The conference was held on 22 October. The party announced its action plan for the hunger strike being carried out by political prisoners since 12 September.
The BDP has declared 30 October as "day of resistance" and has called on all Kurdish people to bring life in the country to a stand still and to join actions in support of prisoners on hunger strike. On 30 October Kurdish deputies and mayors will also begin an hunger strike in tents to be set up in cities.
The BDP said in its statement that the hunger strike has become the party’s main issue on the agenda both because of the demands it puts forward and the risks it carries. BDP described the strike as a resistance action to pave the way for a solution and an attempt to intervene in the AKP government policy of deadlock.
BDP called on democratic public opinion in Turkey to listen to the voice of the hunger strikers and to take action to prevent any death.
According to the Party Council’s action plan on the hunger strike, BDP headquarters and local organizations will create a “democratic civilian resistance line” on Tuesday 30 October.
The other main points of the action plan were listed as follows;
- Information letters signed by the co-chairs of the party will be sent to parties and their leaders in other parts of Kurdistan, human rights organizations in Europe, human rights departments of the UN and the EU, leaders and Turkey embassies of EU countries, USA senators and congress members, relevant departments of the European Council, international opinion leaders and foreign journalists
- BDP provincial organizations will provide support for the activities of TUHAD-FED members and their families
- Lawyers from the Law and Human Rights Commission will be responsible for the ‘Central Commission for Hunger Strike’. They will arrange visits to prisoners on hunger strike, report on their situation and share the reports with the press.
- BDP structures everywhere will leave black wreaths in front of AKP buildings and offices until 30 October 2012.
- BDP central executives, deputies and mayors will be symbolically joining the hunger strike in tents to be set up in various cities in order to inform the public about the situation of the protest and the demands of the prisoners
