HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) MP Özdal Üçer tabled a parliamentary question denouncing violations of rights of child and sick prisoners in Van M Type Closed Prison, F Type Prison and Gürpınar K1 Type Prison.

Üçer, asking for a reply from Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ, stated that child prisoners in Van M Type Closed Prison were subjected to repression and attacks by the prison administration such as intimidation, repression, provocation, physical abuse, denial of access to the infirmary or hospital on time.

HDP MP pointed out that the children here were not only being forced to be a secret agent but also subjected to a isolation policy as they are transferred to prisons in cities far away from Van where their families are. He noted that three children suffered severe trauma due to the mentioned repression they faced.

Üçer also stated that "while Mehmet Emin Akdağ and four other sick prisoners in Van Gürpınar K1 Type Prison were meant to be released in line with the most recent legal arrangement for having six months left to the ending of their sentence, the Prosecutor of the Prison forced the mentioned inmates to accept release by means of the repentance law."

HDP deputy added that sick prisoners in Van F Type Prison were denied referral to hospital on time and subjected to treatment in handcuffs.

Üçer asked Minister Bozdağ if they would take any action against the violations of rights in prisons in the province of Van.
