Child brides problem to be risen in a book

Carrying out a study with the title "Child Brides: Victims of Destructive Traditions and Patriarchal Social Heritage" to draw attention to the "Child Brides" fact, Flying Broom will launch its practice in Aegean Region from Ýzmir. The study will be carried out in 54 provinces including Aydin, Usak and Afyon as well as Ýzmir.

Film screenings and seminars will be held in line with Flying Broom’s study which is also supported by Sabanci Foundation. Two short dumb fiction films of Flying Broom about early and forced marriages will be used in the activities and women participants of all ages will be interviewed.

The interviews will be followed by the seminars of psychologists, lawyers, doctors and sociology experts who will share their information and knowledge about the subject of the activity. The two institutions aim to make the activities with a joint work in each city through the local governments and the extensions public administration in local.

EXPERIENCE AND TESTIMONIES WILL BE COLLECTED INTO A BOOK

The interviews with women about their testimonies and experiences will be published into a book at the end of the project. The book will contain the conversations, testimonies, experiences and the information and documents of the project team in 54 provinces. And the preparation of a documentary is aimed with the images and photographs taken during the activity. The signatures collected during film screenings and other meetings enabled in cities will be conveyed to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey at the end of the project.

One of the most important works of the project will be the field research on the subject in 10 cities selected from 54 cities. The research, which be made with the support of universities as well, will make a contribution to meet the need for data on early and forced marriages.

AEGEAN REGION TO BE STARTED FROM IZMIR

The activities of the project will be started on 18 January in Ýzmir which will be followed by Aydin, Uþak and Afyon. The meeting in Ýzmir will be held at Fair youth theater on 18 January at 14.00 pm.

Giving information about the study, Child Brides Project Coordinator Selen Doðan expressed that they will look for answers to the questions: “How is the problem of early and/or forced marriages perceived in Ýzmir, how can institutions and organizations collaborate, what do our personal stories, experiences and testimonies say?” Doðan called all civil society organizations and women organizations in the city to attend the meeting.
