Children in prison crying out for help

Children who have been transferred to Sincan Juvenile Closed prison in Ankara after sexual abuse claims in Pozantý M Type Closed prison have asked for help in their letters.

“We are in a very difficult situation here. We would like to be transferred to prisons where our families can visit us. We are suffering from psychological problems. We are afraid of harming ourselves, please help us,” wrote the children to the Human Rights Association (ÝHD).

Two hundred children had been transferred to Sincan Juvenile Closed prison in Ankara after DÝHA’s news revealed the sexual abuse claims in Pozantý M Type prison.

Lawyers and human rights executives had warned that the transfer would cause other problems for the families would not be able to visit the children. As a matter of fact, the children are now saying that they are suffering because their families cannot visit them.

ÝHD Adana Branch President Osman Kara notes, “The children write they are psychologically affected by the fact that their families cannot visit them and that they are kept in single cells. They also say that they are afraid of harming themselves. These children must be immediately released. They should be given back their rights to health, education and youth.”
