Abdurrahmann Metin and Remziye Metin have applied to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for the death of their son while he was doing his military service. Relying in particular on Article 2 (Right to life), they complain about the circumstances in which their son met his death in 2004 during his compulsory military service and alleged that the criminal investigation into his death was insufficient. The investigation in question reached a finding of suicide but they argue that he was killed.
Consequently, the ECHR convicted Turkey for insufficient criminal investigation into the death to pay the Metin Family 19,000 Euros and 1000 Euros for their expenses made during the process.
