Following the meeting with Saturday Mothers, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan had stated that no murder by unknown people has occurred during his time in government. However the figures and facts on the issue stand against the Prime Minister. According to the reports by the Human Rigths Association (ÝHD), 607 people fell victim of extra judicial murders since 2002 when the AKP (Justice and Development Party) came to power. Among the victims are as many as 18 children who have been murdered.
In his speech after the meeting with Saturday Mothers on 5th February, Erdoðan had apparently tried to avoid taking any responsibility and commitment to help shade light over thousands of murders by unknown people, claiming that during AKP terms in government no such murders has occurred.
According to the report published by IHD, 607 people were victims of extra judicial murders.
The murders committed year by year are as follow: 41 in 2002, 80 in 2003, 68 in 2004, 43 in 2005, 72 in 2006, 103 in 2007, 52 in 2008, 91 in 2009 and 57 in 2010.
The AKP terms in government are riddle with extra-judicial killings and other human rights violations, which particularly hit Kurdish children. Ahmet Ýmre (12) who was murdered in Güçlükonak/Þýrnak on 5th October 2010 is the last victim killed since the AKP is in government.
