Events in Latin America: Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan!

Actions in Colombia, Mexico and Argentina demanded the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan who is held in total incommunicado detention by the Turkish state.

Events continue in Latin America within the framework of the second phase of the ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question’ campaign that was launched globally by friends of the Kurdish people on 10 October 2023. The latest actions against the systematic isolation of Abdullah Öcalan in the İmralı Island Prison took place in Colombia, Mexico and Argentina.

Argentina

Within the framework of the campaign, the Kurdistan Women's Movement participated in the Multinational Women's Meeting, which is traditionally organised every year in Argentina. YPJ also sent a video to the meeting held in Jujuy and brochures were distributed.

The Committees in Solidarity with the Kurdistan Women's Movement organised a seminar with Mujeres La Sexta on Kurdistan Democratic Confederalism and Chiapas Zapatista Autonomy.

In addition, a meeting was organised with the peoples of Abrapampa on the Bolivian border, who have been resisting for their land in recent years, and a seminar on autonomy and democratic confederalism was organised.

Within the same framework, a meeting was held with the participation of indigenous peoples living in Salinas Grande.

Mexico

The series of events initiated by the committees in solidarity with the women's movement in Mexico continues. After La Resistencia Cultural Centre, the Sandoval Collective opened a photography exhibition on ‘Fikir, Zikir, Çalakî’. The exhibition will continue until 23 October.

The exhibition ‘Fikir-Zikir-Çalakî’ was created by the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E) as part of the ‘Global Days of Action for Freedom for Öcalan’ and is being shown in various European cities.

Members of the Sandoval Collective, which hosted the photography exhibition, issued a call for action against the İmralı isolation.

The Kurdistan Women's Movement Solidarity Committee and Radio Zapote also held a special programme on the isolation of Öcalan.

Colombia

The Kurdish People's Leader's picture was painted on the wall of Antioquia University in Medellin, Colombia by the Kurdistan Women's Movement-Women Weaving the Future Committee.

After the wall painting activity, which was supported by the students of Antioquia University, one of the most well-known universities in the country, a discussion was held on the ideas of Abdullah Öcalan.
