Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul MP Sýrrý Süreyya Önder presented a parliamentary question about Tekirdað F Type Prison where prisoners and their families are systematically subjected to maltreatment and torture.
Önder has noted that the prison living conditions are very poor and that prisoners carried a life sentence are almost confined to death. He has also said that the prison has almost become a concentration camp for Kurdish political prisoners who are sistematically maltreated.
“Families coming for a visit are forced to go through X-ray machines with naked feet. Those who cannot speak Turkish are maltreated. In addition, the prisoners’ right to one-hour open visit is decreased to 45 minutes. There is no heating in the prison is winter and yet in summer the prison is overheated. This kind of torture is common in the prison,” said Önder who asked the Minister of Justice Sadullah Ergin about the government’s actions in relation to the prison.
