The struggle for prisoner Güler Zere, who lost her battle against cancer soon after her release while on the verge of death, has been turn into a documentary film named “Güler Zere”. During her sentence, Zere was neither allowed to receive a treatment nor released despite the advance of her disease and official reports that she needed to be treated outside.
The music of the documentary, which was produced by lawyer Oya Aslan, was performed by political band Grup Yorum which has produced numerous works for revolution and freedom. The documentary film will be premiered at Beyoðlu Movie in Istanbul at 20.00 today.
Producer Aslan remarked that the documentary mainly handled the struggle given for the release of Güler Zere and said the followings; “The documentary film at the same time tells of the effects of F-type prison isolation on people, how these prisons cause disease and what kind of barricades the state puts up before the recovery of diseases. Basing on the determined togetherness for Zere’s liberation, we tried to give the message that “we could break all walls with sensibility if we unite our forces and launch a good campaign”.
Aslan added that they made an effort to realize Zere’s last will for the “protection of sick prisoners and struggling to keep them alive”
More than two thousand prisoners died of various diseases between 2000 and 2010 and dozens are still waiting to die in prison.
