HDP brings Newala Qesaba to Parliament

The HDP had been prevented from visiting Newala Qesaba and brought the issue to the agenda of the Parliament, filing a criminal complaint against state forces.

A delegation consisting of HDP parliamentary group chair Meral Danış Beştaş and MPs Hüda Kaya, Tülay Hatimoğulları, Sıddık Taş, Garo Paylan, Hişyar Özsoy and Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu went to Newala Qesaba on Wednesday, 13 April and made a press statement. However, during this visit, which was made to underline the importance of the mass grave area, to identify the corpses, to confront the past and to protect the area as a place of memory, the public activities of the deputies, the political activities of the politicians and the right of the press to receive information were prevented by the state forces.

The HDP submitted a parliamentary question on the subject and filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the obstacles put to the visit.

'Who gave the order?'

The following questions were asked in the motion presented by the HDP in parliament:

"1- What is the purpose of assigning law enforcement officers to the region on the day the HDP delegation will make an examination and statement?

2- What is the reason for establishing four separate checkpoints between Siirt and Batman?

3- Why did the police act in that way? Who gave orders and instructions?

4- Why did the law enforcement prevent this public duty, even though it is a public activity to make a press release and carry out an examination on a site of public interest?

5- With what justification and authority does the law enforcement prevent the legislative and supervisory activities of deputies?

6- What is the reason for the law enforcement to prevent our party executives not letting them into the area, or removing them? Isn't this also a crime to prevent political activities?

7- What is the reason for not admitting/removing members of the press from the area? Isn't this also a violation of the constitutional right of the people to receive information?

8- Isn't it a violation of constitutional rights the behaviour of the police?

9- Even though the construction of the area where bodies are buried is a crime against the dead, the police blocking the attempt to prevent this crime is not actually being a partner in this crime?

10- Have the law enforcement officers who prevented the disclosure been identified?

11- Will a judicial and administrative investigation be opened against those preventing the visit? In this context, which sanctions will be given to the law enforcement who commit crimes?
