HDP requests establishment of Parliamentary Investigation Commission on work-related deaths

HDP Muş MP, Şevin Coşkun, requested the establishment of a Parliamentary Investigation Commission on work-related deaths.

Occupational Health and Safety, regulated in Law No. 6331, has been in force since 2012 in Turkey and aims to ensure that employees in the public and private sectors have better working conditions.

HDP Muş MP, Şevin Coşkun, requested the establishment of a Parliamentary Investigation Commission on work-related deaths.

Presenting her request, she said that "the law is not implemented effectively, therefore occupational homicides continue to increase for various reasons. According to the report of Occupational Health and Workers' Assembly Safety (ISIG), 127 workers lost their lives in November 2022, and 1658 workers in the first 11 months of the year."

She added: "In accordance with Articles 98 of the Constitution and Articles 104 and 105 of the Internal Regulations, we request the establishment of a Parliamentary Investigation Commission in order to investigate and prevent the murders of workers, to conduct the judicial process fairly, to compensate for the reparable damages of the victims, to provide better working conditions in the workplaces by effectively applying the laws."

Coşkun underlined that "one of the important indicators of the development and human-oriented management approach of the states is that the employees in the public or private sector do their jobs in healthy and safe conditions. However, in Turkey, there are many violations of the right to life and the necessary precautions are not taken when it comes to the working environment."
