The head of the Turkish Bar Associations (TTB), Erinç Sağkan, visited the Şenyaşar family during today’s vigil.
Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons in an armed attack in the Suruç district of Urfa on June 14, 2018, that involved AKP Deputy İbrahim Halil Yıldız's bodyguards and relatives, has been holding a justice vigil for 661 days. Mother Emine is accompanied by her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who was injured in the same attack four and a half years ago.
The head of the Turkish Bar Associations (TTB), Erinç Sağkan, visited today’s justice vigil held in front of the courthouse under a banner reading "Justice vigil against the law of the superiors". Sağkan was accompanied by the head of Urfa Bar Association, Abdullah Öncel. Sağkan received information about the course of the case and listened to the demands of the family.
Sağkan recalled that he had visited the Şenyaşar Family during a vigil a year ago. He said: “There is a mother here, seeking justice. Her outcry needs to be taken care of. This is only possible through a fair trial. It's very simple. The Court of Appeal overturned the first file and ruled that the two separate cases be merged. I believe that an open and transparent trial that would also satisfy the public conscience should be introduced immediately. All the facts concerning the incident should also be revealed and the victims should be compensated for judicial errors.”
