Human Rights Week starts in Izmir

The activities for Human Rights Week are starting tomorrow. ÝHD Ýzmir Branch will take the Traditional Human Rights March, while TÝHV will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The activities of the Human Rights Week in Ýzmir will start with a press conference of ÇHD (Contemporary Lawyers' Association), ÝHD (Human Rights Association) and TÝHV (Human Rights Foundation of Turkey). A report will be declared at the conference concerning the right abuses.

PEACE AND MOTHER-TONGUE THEME

The Traditional Human Rights March of ÝHD will begin at 17.00 in front of Konak Ex Sümerbank tomorrow evening. Organizing the activities of this year on the theme of “peace and mother-tongue”, ÝHD Ýzmir Branch will hold a conference on 13 December Monday evening on “mother tongue”, which will be followed by the display of Ýki Dil Bir Bavul (Two Languages, A suitcase) film at Türkan Saylan Culture Center. Human Rights defenders will hand out the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and will close the week with the activity “Craving for Peace” on 17 December evening in front of Konak Ex Sümerbank.

20TH YEAR CONCERT BY TÝHV

The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey is celebrating its 20th year this year. TÝHV Ýzmir Representation Office will give a cocktail party on 10 December Friday evening and hold an exhibition of Abidin Dino. The exhibition with the name “Torture Designs” will remain open in Ýzmir Sanat till 16 December.

Seperately, TÝHV Ýzmir Representation Office is organizing Documentary Film Days between 11-15 Decembers. A number of films including Miraz, Bölge (Region), Kaðýthane, Ýþkenceye Sýfýr Tolerans (Zero Tolerance of Torture) and Toz (Dust), will meet cinema lovers at Ýzmir Sanat between hours 14.00–19.00.

In the frame of foundation and week activities, TÝHV will be organizing a Twentieth Year Concert on 12 December Sunday. The concert, where Bandista, Sokak Orkestrasý and Enzo Ýkah Band will be taking to the stage, will start at 17.00 at Tepekule Congress Center.
