Speaking about the ongoing hunger strike carried out by Kurdish political prisoners in Turkey, film maker and journalist Þehbal Þenyurt pointed out that the AKP government is not taking any positive and permanent steps for a solution and added that; “Prisoners on hunger strike are using their bodies to create a solution despite the AKP government's attempt to hide the truth of what is going on in this country.”
Journalist Þehbal Þenyurt, Muðla independent candidate of the Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block in former elections, also called attention to the arrest of 59 members of the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) assembly. She added that the AKP government pressures on all democratic circles in Turkey has made it to lose support because of its ambivalent attitude during Oslo talks, the Roboski massacre, its approach towards the right to mother language and its policy on Syria.
Þenyurt underlined that the government is already aware of the fact that it will not be able to avoid this power loss unless it pays regard to the demands of Kurdish people and all democrat peoples in Turkey. However, people now want to see the AKP government to act because they have lost confidence in it after so many broken promises.
Apê Mûsa's (as writer Musa Anter, who was killed in the '90s is called) children Dicle Anter and Rahþan Anter who will also go on a one-day hunger strike in the eastern province of Batman and western province of Ýzmir on Tuesday in support to that of Kurdish prisoners called for action about the prisoners on strike.
Dicle and Rahþan Anter, remarked that their action aims to call public attention to the dirty war and inhuman treatments in Turkey as well as to the strikes which have been going on for 40 days now.
“We witness the judiciary being used as a political instrument against the Kurdish issue which today stands as the most important problem in Turkey”, said Dicle and Rahþan Anter and called for the creation of new environments in order to ensure peace in the country.
“Human life is precious and people should be shown respect for their thoughts, existence, language and beliefs. We expect every human to raise their voice and to ask what is going on in the country”, they added.
Also speaking to ANF about the hunger strikes, Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council President Murat Karayýlan remarked that the strike act stands as a road map to the solution of the Kurdish issue.
Karayýlan replied to those stating that Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan is the only person who can stop the hunger strike underlining that “The ending of the strike and prevention of potential deaths could only be made possible by the fulfillment of demands of prisoners. The responsibility belongs to the AKP government.”
