In Iran, prisoner of conscience Zeinab Jalalian is banned from family visits after she protested against drug use in prison.
According to a report by East Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Jalalian protested against the widespread use of drugs in prison. She was banned from her weekly family visit in response.
Jalalian informed the network about her prison conditions via a reliable source. “Some time ago I protested against the widespread use of drugs in prison. But instead of taking this into account the prison administration mixed drugs to the tea that we drink. They even mixed urine with tea. Like it was not enough they banned my weekly visit” she said.
Jalalian said she remains mentally strong but her health is failing. She said that she applied to the prison administration for treatment but she was denied of treatment outside the prison, in a hospital.
Jalalian also stated that the reports that she received treatment outside of the prison are all false. She is currently protesting the prison administration by not taking her prescription pills since February 2017.
Arrested in 2007, Jalalian was sentenced to death in 2009 on the charge of “waging war against the state.” The Supreme Court reduced the sentence to life imprisonment in 2011.
