Mother of Plaza de Mayo meet Saturday Mothers

The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo came to Istanbul to support Saturday Mothers' struggle to obtain news of their relatives who forcibly disappeared.

The Saturday Mothers hosted the Argentinean delegation at their 296th meeting in front of Galatasaray High School in Istanbul.

Teresita De Guera, widow of the journalist, Manuel De Guera, who went missing in 1976 in Argentina, addressed the meeting and shared her experience. Argentina recorded 30,000 disappeared people between 1976 and 1983 during the coup d'etat period.

The Saturday Mothers' meeting was dedicated to journalist Nazým Babaoðlu, who disappeared while in police custody in 1994.

His brother, Irfan Babaoðlu, read a press statement: "Turkey's President is very sensitive about other countries' problems like Lebanon. He said in Beirut that they are going to speak up against injustice and killers who murdered innocent civilians. He also highlighted peace and democracy. We wonder when the president will recognize the injustice and killers who murdered innocent civilians in Turkey."

In solidarity, relatives of missing people took to the street in Diyarbakýr and Batman, too. For the 94th week, Human Rights Association (IHD) and many relatives gathered and demanded justice for

disappeared people and their families.
