MP Şenyaşar: We will move our vigil to Ankara if justice is not served

Ferit Şenyaşar said that they would end their vigil in front of Urfa Courthouse on July 18, when the hearing over the brutal murder of his family members in Urfa will be held in Malatya province.

On 14 June 2018, the bodyguards and relatives of AKP Urfa MP Ibrahim Halil Yıldız attacked the Şenyaşar family's shop in Suruç during the election campaign. In the attack, brothers Celal, Adil, Mehmet, Fadıl and Ferit Şenyaşar were severely injured and hospitalized. Relatives and supporters of AKP MP Yıldız killed Celal and Adil Şenyaşar in hospital, and their father Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar, when he went to the hospital to see his sons. He was brutally murdered, being lynched in front of his wife, Emine Şenyaşar.

Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit have been holding a Justice Vigil in front of the Courthouse of Urfa since 9 March 2021, demanding those responsible to be brought to account.

Ferit Şenyaşar, who was elected a deputy from the Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party) in the May 14 election, held a press conference in the parliament today about their ongoing struggle for justice.

Şenyaşar said that they would end their vigil in front of Urfa Courthouse on July 18, when the hearing over the brutal murder of his family members in hospital will be held in Malatya province.

“My mother is awaiting justice,” said Şenyaşar and continued: “A massacre was perpetrated in a state hospital before cameras and hundreds of witnesses. The instigator of the massacre is yet to be arrested, while a woman, whose husband and two sons were killed in hospital, is holding a vigil for justice, and another son of her remains behind bars. The judges to make a decision to July 18 will decide on behalf of the society. If the hearing does not end with a decision to ease the society’s conscience, we will move our justice vigil to Ankara.”

Şenyaşar noted that they would end their vigil should the court fail to make a fair decision. He thanked all the legal organizations, political party representatives and all those with a conscience who have supported their struggle for justice for the past five years.
