Ferit Şenyaşar continues his fight for justice in parliament

Green Left Party MP Ferit Şenyaşar, who lost his father and two brothers in a massacre by AKP people in Şuruç in 2018, continues his struggle for justice in the parliament now after being elected an MP in the May 14 election.

On 14 June 2018, the bodyguards and relatives of AKP Urfa MP Ibrahim Halil Yıldız attacked the Şenyaşar family's shop in Suruç during the election campaign. In the attack, brothers Celal, Adil, Mehmet, Fadıl and Ferit Şenyaşar were severely injured and hospitalized. Relatives and supporters of AKP MP Yıldız killed Celal and Adil Şenyaşar in hospital, and their father Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar, when he went to the hospital to see his sons. He was brutally murdered, being lynched in front of his wife, Emine Şenyaşar.

Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit have been holding a Justice Vigil in front of the Courthouse of Urfa since 9 March 2021, demanding those responsible to be brought to account.

Ferit Şenyaşar, who was elected a deputy from the Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party) in the May 14 election, held a press conference in the parliament today exposing what they have been through since the massacre of his family members.  Şenyaşar said that he became a member of parliament to seek justice and to bring up the problems of the Urfa people in Parliament.

Şenyaşar noted that one of his brothers, Fadıl Şenyaşar, had been in prison for five years and held in solitary confinement. He continued: “We have been seeking justice for 5 years, demanding a fair trial. During the course of our vigil in front of Urfa courthouse, which has been ongoing for 809 days, we were battered and detained several times but never gave up the struggle. A total of 45 investigations have been launched against us; 31 against my mother and 14 against me. These investigations are gradually turned into lawsuits. Yesterday, my mother stood trial again and was fined 8 thousand Turkish liras for insulting a public official. Of course, we do not accept this unlawfulness.”

Şenyaşar added: “We want this injustice to come to an end. If the Minister of Justice does not agree to meet with us, the Governor of Urfa at the time can bear witness to the killings at the hospital. Other witnesses of the hospital killings are the Şanlıurfa Police Chief and the Minister of Agriculture of the time. The first chief prosecutor of the hospital killings was Sadi Doğan. He is currently in Ankara. We urge the Ministry of Justice to deal with this injustice. My mother is 67 years old. She has difficulty standing, but she keeps saying that 'I will not leave the Urfa Courthouse until justice is served'. We call on the Minister of Justice to secure justice.”
