The Peace Mothers Van Assembly slammed the increasing violations of rights in Turkey’s prisons and demanded immediate release of sick prisoners.
The Van Assembly of Peace Mothers made a statement expressing their concern over the ever-worsening situation in prisons.
Members of the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA), Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Van Women's Assembly and Star Women's Association also attended the event.
During the press statement, a banner reading "We defend freedom against isolation, life against death, long live the prison resistance" was displayed.
Zekiye Kaya, a member of the Peace Mothers Van Assembly, read out the statement and demanded that sick prisoners be released immediately.
“We want justice, unity and brotherhood. We want justice to prevail in Turkey. Justice is the solution to all human rights issues, not deaths and executions,” Kaya said.
“The sick prisoners should be properly treated at hospitals immediately. We want neither soldiers and police officers nor guerrillas to die. We don't want anyone to die. We want justice and peace,” she added.
Şevki Ekinci, the mother of Mert Ekinci, who is held in a solitary cell in Van High Security Prison, called for an end to the violations of rights.
“Why are they mistreating us like that?” she asked, calling for the authorities to do their job.
