Petition for Kurdish female prisoner Pakshan Azizi sentenced to death in Iran

A petition has been launched for Kurdish female prisoner Pakshan Azizi, after her death sentence was upheld.

Activists living in Rojhilat Kurdistan have released a statement about the decision to uphold the death sentence given to Pakshan Azizi by the Iranian authorities.

Together with the statement, the activists are also promoting a petition. The statement said: "We are signing this petition and demanding that the arbitrary death sentence given to Pakshan Azizi be overturned. We call on everyone to speak out for Pakshan Azizi’s freedom."

Amir Reisiyan, the lawyer of Kurdish political prisoner Pakshan Azizi, said earlier this week that the Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence handed to his client.

In a statement on his social media account, the lawyer said that the documents submitted to the court for Pakshan Azizi’s defence were also rejected.

Born in Mahabad and currently held in Evin Prison in Tehran, Pakshan Azizi is a women's rights defender, journalist and civil society activist.
