Amedeo Ciaccheri, President of Rome VIII district, participated in the events in Rojava marking the anniversary of the liberation of Kobanê from ISIS ten years ago.
The Turkish state declared Ciaccheri 'persona non grata' and detained him while he was trying to get a connecting flight at Istanbul Airport.
Ciaccheri was detained for about an hour and released after the Italian authorities intervened.
Ciaccheri was one of the 40 European participants in the events celebrating the liberation of Kobanê in Rojava.
