Mehmet Aras was suffering from throat cancer. He died on Sunday in jail. He was detained in Erzurum H typed closed for 2 years.
Aras lawyer Þaziye Önder had been warning authorities for over a year against the worsening of her client health.
Despite the waning and calls 60-year-old cancer patient Mehmet Aras was not released from prison.
According to the minister of justice between 200 and 2011, 943 prisoners have died. But in 2010 alone 161 ill prisoners died. In 2011 the prisoners who died have been 31 (included Aras).
