Burhan Özmış, a prisoner in Şakran No. 3 T-Type Closed Prison B-9 ward in Aliağa district of Izmir, said that he was subjected to violence and that the prison doctor refused to issue him with a medical report.
The 24-year-old detainee conveyed the situation to his father Cihan Özmış during his weekly phone call on 5 April. It was reported that Özmış was subjected to physical violence, beaten by 15 guards after a previous phone call on 1 April.
Having learned about the beating, Cihan Özmış went to Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and issued a complaint about the guards who battered his son.
The prosecutor's office in Izmir, who launched an investigation following the complaint, received the testimony of Burhan Özmış.
Özmış said on 8 April in his telephone conversation with his family: "Yesterday, the sergeant called me. They said, 'Your father complained to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office about the beating.' I said yes, it's true. The guards beat me and I asked my family to make a complaint. He said to me, 'Where are the beating marks?' I said that the prison doctor was biased. The prison doctor did not issue a medical report. Everyone saw the swelling and bruising on my face, nose and ear, and my ward mates are witnesses. I said that there are camera recordings. I said that they dragged me on the ground and beaten."
