Sixty years old Mehmet Aras is a convicted political prisoner suffering from throat cancer. He has been detained in Erzurum H typed closed for 2 years and he did not overcome his disease.

Aras’ lawyer Þaziye Önder had warned last January against possible worse consequences in case of continuation of the imprisonment. Prisoner in Erzurum H Type Closed Prison, 60-year-old cancer patient Mehmet Aras, who hasn’t been released for not receiving the reports from Forensic Medicine Institute, is reported to be still in serious condition at Erzurum Training and Research Hospital. Aras’ reports are still held at Ministry of Justice’s General Directorate of Penal Affairs.

Aras’ lawyer Þaziye Önder stated that the Ministry of Justice and all essential institutions should be sensitive as Aras has no more time to wait;“ Mehmet Aras’ body now does not accept any treatment. He has not been released for months due to the procedure and he is in a total psychological depression now. As he is in a constant expectation, he is always asking his family when the documents will be fulfilled.” Brother Tayfun Aras also notes that his brother’s health doesn’t record any progress while he is expecting to leave the hospital soon. Tayfun Aras called everyone who has a conscience, to pay attention to the issue.
