Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Ümraniye Branch chair Recep Karagül is in prison for six months accused of being member of an illegal organization. He is seriously ill, reported his family. Karagül is kept in a room with iron bars in hospital and at present is not allowed to meet his family. Karagül’s lawyer Hasari Yenice says that the applications for Karagül’s release has been rejected.

Karagül was arrested for attending the BDP Political Academy and participating at BDP’s press conferences. He was hospitalized four times in six months of imprisonment.

His son Kerem Karagül says that the prison conditions caused a deterioration of his father’s health. Karagül’s family is concerned about a worsening of his condition in case he is sent back to the prison after a serious heart operation he will have today, Thursday. Yet, his lawyer who will put in another application for his release says that he will probably be sent back to the prison as the previous applications have been rejected.
