Prisoners protest against torture

Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members who are incarcerated in the Siirt E-Type Prison protested against the torture they have have been suffering in prison. They called on all democratic associations to protest Turkey's policies.

In a statement released by the prisoners, it is stated that the ruling" AKP (Justice and Development Party) told people many things about solving Kurdish problem, but they are insincere. The AKP and Erdoðan are dragging people into a new time of war. The mentality of Erdoðan and the AKP are the main obstacle to solving the Kurdish problem."

The statement also said that the AKP government has killed more than 60 children in its nine years in power. "Even though torture is not systematic in prisons anymore, there have been cases of torture in the prisons and police stations in recent years. Our friends, Þemsettin Akyaç, Ýsa Adýrt, Halit Toprak, Rýdvan Oðuz, Muhsin Beydoðan, Hakký Sensur, Enver Aykaç and Harun Aykaç were subjected to physical and psychological torture in the Siirt Police Station. Our friends refused to give in to blackmail and death threats, and they were subject to beatings and torture."

The statement called on the Siirt Bar Association to asist in the legal struggle against torture.
