A demonstration was held yesterday (Wednesday) at 20:30 in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm to protest death sentences in Iran and to stop the execution of Kurdish political prisoner Saman Nesim.

Kurdish people living in Sweden protested the Iranian regime, which is about to carry out the execution of a Kurdish prisoner, Saman Nesim, and demanded the execution be stopped.

The demonstrators condemned the decision to carry out the death sentences of Saman Nesim and 5 other political prisoners in the Urmiye prison, where recently a hunger strike was held in protest at the repressive policies of the regime in the prison. The protestors carried placards which read “Freedom for political prisoners”, “Down with the Islamic Iranian regime”, “Stop the executions in Iran” as well as pictures of Saman Nesim as well as the other prisoners who are about to be executed: Şirwan Nejavi, Ibrahim Isapur, Ali Afşari, Habib Afşari and Yunus Agayan.

The Kurdish people demanded that the Swedish Foreign Ministry intervene to stop the execution of Saman Nesim and the other prisoners. The ministry authorities told demonstrators that they will take the issue to the European Union and demand the EU intervene to stop the executions.

The demonstrators said in response that they will continue their actions until they receive a reply from the EU authorities.  At around 22:30 the staff of the Foreign Affairs Ministry conveyed the written statement of the European Union asking for the execution of Saman Nesim to be halted. The Kurdish demonstrators chanted slogans and ended their action after receiving the statement.
